Meson Pie Review of Frayed Knights: The Skull of S’makh-Daon

Posted by Rampant Coyote on February 17, 2014

Those of you who follow me on Twitter or Facebook may have seen this one over the weekend. Meson Pie is doing a series called “Greenlighters” which highlights games which have been stuck in Steam Greenlight for a while. Guess who was featured?

The one thing that this video tells me, along with a few other sites that have just “discovered” Frayed Knights, is that I suck at marketing. Badly. I definitely need to work on that with the sequel.

On the plus side, FK has been slowly but steadily moving upwards in the rankings as new batches of games get greenlit, so I suppose that’s the right trajectory…

Always thought it was odd that Frayed Knights did not get more recognition in various gaming news outlets etc considering how great a game it is.
Since “old school” rpgs is rapidly becoming a mainstream thing perhaps getting a few lets play reviewers (total biscuit etc) to do a play through of the sequel would be a relatively inexpensive way to boost sales.

Pretty much. You have said before you think there are people out there who would like this type of game it’s just a matter of finding them, and this video does provide further evidence of that

    >Why did I over look this? Why did I miss this, it’s exactly my type of game.

And I guess one of the decisions you need to to make when marketing frayed knights 2 is your greenlight push. Do you try to get Frayed Knights in the top 100 on greenlight now, building up an audience for a sequel, or do you your big push for Frayed Knights 2 and try to get that Greenlit as part of the general marketing for the game.

I’m amazed by how mesmerizing it is to listen to British people explain things to each other. @_@

I always feel weird about voting on Greenlight. Because if I’m not going to buy it on Steam (because I want it or already have it DRM-free), then I’m kind of not giving them the data they’re asking for (“Would you buy this on Steam if we had it?”). But I want other people to have it. Really, I just need to rationalize the untruth here so I can do my duty. 😛
