Tales of the Rampant Coyote

Adventures in Indie Gaming!

Clockwork Empires Teaser

City-building (they claim inspiration from Dwarf Fortress), Steampunk, and a dose of Lovecraft-style horror all mixed together in one game, by the makers of Dungeons of Dredmor?

Yeah, count me in. I’ve been hearing about this game for a while (like, since they first announced it), but I finally saw the trailer…

With so many indie games announced / Kickstarted / released / talked about these days, I often don’t look too far forward for games anymore. It’s nice to find an exception.

I am really not sure what to make of this. The city building thing looks nice, but then the second part of the trailer was pure WTFery. Is this Cthulhu cultist thing supposed to be an integral part of gameplay, or is it more like Godzilla in SimCity??

Really good question. It sounds as if they are including it in some of their marketing stuff as something sorta integral – maybe a persistent threat, but one of many. So that’s unclear. It’ll be interesting to see how they handle it.

Plus that thing set half the map on fire and looked unstoppable. I’d hate it to spend time building a city, only to have it wrecked by an indestructible monster. Even in Dwarf Fortress there are ways to defend or stay safe from these things.

I thnik there was some other 2D city builder coming up. I think it was called Outpost and made mostly by one guy, but I can’t find a link.
