Samarost 2 Added to the Humble Indie Bundle (Only 1 Day Left)

Posted by Rampant Coyote on May 10, 2010

The “Humble Indie Bundle” has been updated to include a copy of Samarost 2, by Aminata design. Those who have already purchased the bundle had it added to their list already.

The Humble Indie Bundle is a collection of six (formerly five) indie games that allow you to pay whatever your want for them. Your payment can be divided among the developers and the two charities in whatever ratio you want – by default, it’s evenly split among all parties. Personally, while I’m a fan of the EFF and Child’s Play, I consider the indies a pretty worthy cause, too.

It sounds like this experiment, while not yielding the average donations they had expected, made up for it with quantity. It’s been a nice success for the developers and for the charities they are supporting. As a side-note, it seems that the biggest average donations have come from Linux users.

What impresses me, here, is how the flexibility of small indie studios can so easily allow them to do stuff like this. While it’s not exactly a common thing (yet) for indies,  this level of cooperation and contribution to the community to the benefit of the gamers is pretty dang awesome, IMO.

And the games are pretty cool, too.

As another side note – as of this time, there’s only one more day left to take advantage of this deal. So if you are interested, NOW IS THE TIME.

Thanks for pointing this out! Entirely due to your posts, I grabbed this today. There’s an additional incentive you might have missed… the HIB version of Penumbra Overture comes with a coupon code you can use to buy the entire Penumbra collection for $5.

That was a very generous touch, I thought (and excellent marketing for the dev’s upcoming Amnesia game – as if the current 50% off the preorder promotion wasn’t enough).

Oh, wow, I did miss that — and I want to take advantage of it. I think the entire collection was on sale for $5 once before, and I missed it. Now’s the chance to rectify that…

Thanks for mentioning that Chris, I bought the bundle mainly for that coupon after watching the Penumbra videos. Look like some great, creepy horror-puzzlers, I’m keen to see what an indie dev can do in the horror space.

Ouch! A 25% measured piracy rate so far on the HIB. That’s unbelievable. ( http://consumerist.com/2010/05/awesome-game-offer-removes-all-incentives-for-piracy-gets-pirated-anyway.html )Somehow, I doubt the pirates are credit-card-less children who don’t know better. At least it’s better than the usual 90%.

I took advantage of the bundle, I can’t believe that it’s getting pirated.

Well, given the games I can believe that people would play them for nothing. But it’s outrageous that they can rationalize it! I’m already feeling guilty for not paying more and I’d like to make up for it when I have a paycheck that isn’t earmarked before I earned it. (Though how do I avoid the paradox of doing that when I want to earmark it now to pay them? Meh)

I can only hope some of the pirates turn out to be unwitting dopes who jumped on a “Free game” offer and then decide to contribute.
