Din’s Legacy Released

Posted by Rampant Coyote on August 28, 2019

Sorry it’s been a bit quiet of late. At least I can say that this summer hasn’t been boring. Anyway… I wanted to pass this along. Din’s Legacy has been released as a full on 1.0 version. I’ve played the Early Access a little bit, and I’m looking forward to playing this final version. I’ve been a fan of Soldak’s RPGs for a long time, and Din’s Curse is an old favorite of mine. I didn’t play around much with the mutation system to really get a good feel for it, but everything else looked like a more refined, cooler, more exciting game in a series that has always been ahead of the mainstream competition.

Din’s Legacy Released.

I spent waaaay too much time with the Mutation system and I have a story that epitomizes why I love it.

My buddy Rob and I are very different in what we enjoy. I’m a stupidly hardcore player and he’s casual and mainstream. We both decided to play the game.

He played it as a diablo clone. He ran around doing his quests, click-festing the enemies, enjoying the randomized aspects. He got to relax after work.

Me on the other hand? I set permadeath on, hunger on, Ego on (No XP from lower-level enemies) and I fought like a beast. I struggled and I overcame while having to consider food or letting enemy bosses grow to a point that I’d gain experience. My brain had a workout.

We both had an absolute blast with the very same game. I just can’t help but be grateful that it ALLOWED us to be different players.

That is fantastic! And absolutely true. I loved that with the previous games, too… there were SO MANY options. You can really tweak things the way you want. I mean… to the degree that in Zombicite, a game *about* a zombie plague in this fantasy world, you could actually turn the zombie plague off. All by itself, that would merely be amusing, but the fact that it’s just one of so many options that you can tweak is pretty cool.

Oh, and don’t play your “iron-man” permadeath character when you are exhausted and falling asleep at the wheel. I learned that the hard way…. 😀
