Move over, Diablo! The king of action-RPG
dungeon crawlers has arrived. And it's called Din's Curse.
Borrowing the best aspects of their two previous
of Peril and
Underworld, plus some best parts of popular "roguelikes,"
Soldak Entertainment has produced an indie masterpiece of
Din's Curse puts you in the role of a
formerly none-to-pleasant adventurer whose acts of selfishness now
require redemption as a servant of the god Din. So you are now taken
from town to town across the world, appearing at a time of peril to
rescue the town from otherwise certain destruction. Hopefully...
And I do mean, "hopefully." Your victory is nowhere
near assured. While the basic action will be very familiar to people
familiar with dungeon-crawling action-RPGs, the word "dynamic"
here is not just a euphemism for "randomly generated." The dungeons
and towns come alive as things change in real-time. Monsters don't
wait around for you to make an appearance - they will fight each
other in their own battles (and level up to become more powerfuil),
plans will advance, and the evil mastermind may very well finish
constructing their doomsday device. Your quests will change to match
the changing circumstances, and it is very possible to find Din
collecting you as a city has fallen and moving on to new digs. Your
actions have consequences.
And what actions! Besides the usual fighting and
looting, there are uprisings to quell, rescues to make, items to
deliver (of course), plagues to cure, assassins to stop, deadly
doomsday devices to prevent, traitors to flush out, spies to root
out, wars to end, curses to undo, and more. A lot more. It's packed.
Oh, and did I mention cooperative multiplayer?
Din's Curse has that, too! So jump in and adventure with
friends. You'll probably find yourself spending way too much time
playing the game, anyway, so you may as well bring along some buds.
It's cool, it's deep, it can sometimes be frantic,
and it's very different from everything else out there. And most
importantly, it's very, very fun.
