I like this article quite a lot, because it shows how much such will enhance the players experience and it can be done with fairly moderate effort, at least the part of monster and NPC stories.
I just remembered the old roguelikes that had a "monster memory" feature, that would give you more and more details about a monster sort, the more you have battled them. This included a short story, which I usually liked to reach, and then some technical details like the monsters stats and abilitries, which would be revealed more and more, the more of the monsters you had killed.
I miss that a bit in many modern games. They are visual, but it seems designers forgot about the text when putting so much effort into the graphics. |
