New Indie Space Combat Game: Naumachia
Three Italian indies have come up with what - at first blush - looks to be a pretty cool space combat game. With "realistic physics" even.

Clearly, this isn't a game for me, but I'd like to understand your point of view. So,... what exactly is cool about it?
Wouldn't you get horribly bored after about 10 minutes? Yeah, I like pretty explosions, too, but would that really hold your interest?
I look at the video and find myself saddened about all the effort that's going into something like that (especially when I'd love to see a good space-based game). But obviously, I'm not seeing it from your point of view. Can you explain it?
And yes, I know that tastes are different. I have no problem with that. What other people like to play is their own business, not mine. I'm just curious about the "other side," so to speak. What do you find cool about this?

The same thing we found cool with "space invaders", "galaga", and "x-wings" maybe ?
They were a lot of fun and held our interest for hours. I don't think that prettier explosions would distract us from the pleasure of a nice space dogfight.
I'm not certain I'll jump aboard that one, and I'm one of those who still wait for the next "Elite", which wouldn't feature pre-defined characters and linear plots (I was disappointed with both "Freelancer" and "X2"). But "Elite" never prevented me from playing the mission-based "Wing Commander" in parallel. And when you think of it, "Elite" was just space combats with a bit of trading and travelling thrown in. I'm not interested in playing "Fallout tactics" but I adored the fights in "Fallout", and understand perfectly well that someone would want just just re-launch a little Fallout skirmish. I also loved "Deus Ex" and "System Shock 2" but also played some fps just to jump in a gunfight. And lastly, I'm not sure how much more different a mere space combat game is from a "good space-based game", than a diablo-like is from a roleplaying game. Many people enjoy both.
So, that's a bit what the other side looks like. Yours always got bored after 10 minutes of "Worms" ?

Big space battles - plus tactical aspects (commanding ships)? Way fun if you ask me. I'm always for these kinds of games.
One of my biggest annoyances with space missions is that fact that I can't see all those little nasties out there gunning for me. But just as soon as they come into view this game locks a marker on them!! For me, these games are fun because I can easily get into the roll. My favorite movies growing up were Star Wars and I love simulations like this. These are probably more actual "ROLE" playing for me than cRPG's.
OH, I also just bought Decent 3 for the first time off GOG and love it, these games are so tactical.

Different strokes for different folks. As I noted, I have no problem with that. This just struck me as odd, because I wouldn't have batted an eye if you'd made fun of the video, or otherwise criticized it, instead of praising it.
I don't play space shooters anyway (even the ones that look interesting), because I can't hit anything from a spaceship. That's been proven beyond a reasonable doubt many times before. But some of them DO look like they'd be fun. This one - going by the video only - didn't. But, hey, that's just me. No problem. I was just curious.

That looks like a knockoff of Freespace2... YAY! It's been way too long since someone put out a great space flight sim. (FS2 is now TEN years old)
@Jos
There've actually been quite a few, but they've mostly been indie games - so they are kinda hard to find. I'm not sure where this one stands in relation, but it looks like it has the potential to be one of the better ones.
