And Aloha...
The word "aloha" is used in Hawaii to mean both hello and goodbye. I'm typing this on the morning of our last day of vacation in Hawaii, though it's scheduled to publish at some point while we're in the air on our way home.
It's been fun. Besides the aforementioned Ghost Tour, we spent some time on Waikiki beach, went snorkling at Hanauma Bay, and spent a day at the Polynesian Cultural Center. Great place if you like to see a lot of dancing:

This is also where you can watch men put out fires with their nether regions. Or more exactly, the leaves around their nether regions:

Nope. I ain't man enough to try.
This is also a great place to see rampant capitalism in action. As a rampant capitalist myself, I didn't mind seeing folks hustling to make a living. But I can also see it being an Ayn Randian nightmare after too long. Sorta reminiscent of the scene in Minority Report where John Anderton first uses his purchased eyes. But we've been saving up for years for this trip, so it was kinda nice to pretend to be rich for a week and not worry about money. After today, we got to go back to being all tight-fisted and budgeted again.
My laptop saw very little use this week, which I'm gonna count as a good thing. While I haven't been completely unplugged, my time has been occupied by A Lot of Fun this week. I harbored some illusions of playing some classic RPGs, but I've instead gotten some reading done (often on the beach... yum!)
I've got one more guest post set up for tomorrow - also by Greg Tedder. His previous article was on alternative save-game systems, which definitely generated some discussion. :) I'm gonna be back from vacation now, but if you feel a desire to do a guest post, the door's still open (and will be in perpetuity, as far as I can plan ahead). Hopefully you've enjoyed hearing a few other voices in this spot over the last week!

Aloha! It sounds like you had a lot of fun! Did you get to check out the presentation at Samoa village at the Polynesian Cultural Center (PCC)? The guy was hilarious!! There was also some cool crafts going all around the place - did you participate in the spear throw in Tonga? I won! I got myself a nice shell necklace. :3
If you ever go again, try the Dole Plantation. It's on the way to the PCC and they serve lotsa pineapple dishes. So yummy... and it was tons of fun running - er, briskly walking around the maze. (we're technically not supposed run around the maze :P )
There's also the Byodo-In which is a Buddhist Temple about halfway to the PCC near the ocean and not inland like the Dole Plantation. Very beautiful place. Tons of monster-sized koi. Really - they were huuuuuge! And there's a temple bell there you can hit with a log. Giant Buddhist statue is of course also there.
The view is fantastic from Diamond Head. And the climb is something else. So... many.... steps!
Man, I want to go back. But it's expensive. Oh well, I guess I'll just stare at my dancing bobble head hula girl till I go again. XD

That seems like a bad way to get burnt out on sex. Ouch!

I lived across the street (literally) from PCC for three years. My dad was the VP of Finance, so we went in the back gate sometimes, and I saw their shows several times (and performed there once, with my elementary school class).
My experience? Hawaii is a fun place to visit, but I don't think I want to live there again.

Yeah, I've heard from many people that Hawaii may be a great place to visit, but you wouldn't want to live there. Although my shuttle / bus drivers seemed to like it... :)
We didn't do the spear throwing this time - we did that last time though.
We wanted to hit the Buddhist temple (my daughter, in particular, wanted to see it). But we went on the Ghost Tour instead.
And yeah - pricey. We'd saved up for a long time for this trip, though, so everything was PAID FOR. That makes it much easier.

Yeah, except for minor sunburns on our second-to-last day and a small blister on my foot, we escaped this one relatively unscathed.
