Mechwarrior Reborn
Um. Is "Mechgasm" a word? 'Cuz if it is, I think I just had one...

Mechwarrior is BACK, baby. I particularly love the tips of the barrels of the Warhammer's PPCs glowing with heat after being fired.
I was a fan of the original Mechwarrior game (in it's EGA glory), and the Mechwarrior 2 series (MW2, Ghost Bear's Legacy, and MW2 Mercenaries) was almost an obsession. (And yes, I have the tabletop game too, plus several of the technical manuals). MW3 was enjoyable, but somehow lacked the punch of the earlier titles, and MW4 was - for me - unplayable.
So am thrilled by the idea of a "reboot." With Jordan Weisman on board, it sounds like they could have a winner on their hands. But all they have now is a proof of concept and some great ideas... so it's not something we'll be finding on store shelves or on Steam anytime soon. They don't even have a publisher yet.
The suggestion of emphasis on four-player cooperative multiplayer has me thrilled. I'm psyched, and I hope this pans out.

I actually have MW laying around somewhere (think 3 or 4) but never really played it. I might have to give it a look.
The trailer was pretty cool.

Mechgasm is right, or maybe even a megasmic orgy. I especially like the RPG elements and the fact that you could go through the entire campaign in a light mech. MGS meets MW?
Yeah, the bonuses for specialization (in both a class and a particular chassis) does sound pretty interesting - particularly with how they intend to focus on specific roles for those classes. In previous games they made some weak stabs at it (recon missions with a maximum tonnage, etc), but for the most part the light mechs were simply really weak assault mechs with jump jets.
Oh, wait. Now I remember all the online multiplayer I did with MW2. Jump jets rules... ;)

I am just syked about the Mechs. Since the fall out between FASA and the Robotech guys, we haven't seen that IP available. I miss those mechs.

Whoa, Mechwarrior! I used to play the heck out of this game (computer version and table top). Color me excited. Sweet!
If this is representative, I do believe I shall need a new computer. Mechs may be completely impractical in the real world, but they're undeniably cool.
I loved Mechwarrior 4, including Black Knight and Mercenares. (I could never get 3 to run properly, oddly enough.) What was unplayable about 4 for you?
I'm more surprised they brought back the Warhammer mech; that was one of those 'borrowed' from Robotech/Macross and the source of the dispute.
I'm very interested in the specialization idea; would make more sense to allow you to customize the pilot. I had a lot of fun with Mechwarrior 2(single-player, not multi sadly) building mechs with 4 Heavy Lasers and crammed with heat sinks. Lots of firepower, no attack delay, and fairly low heat issues.

I love mecha. I own all title but still play mercenaries most. I also played a lot in a VirtualWOrld Location we had in montreal... I can't wait to buy that new version (probably with a new video card/motherboard/cpu...)
For what it is worth, here's the story about the mech designs that I heard / understood it: FASA *DID* officially license those mech designs from the Macross IP owners.
But the problem was that it wasn't a non-exclusive license, and that there were several other licensees who obtained the full-on Macross / Robotech license. And so they kept turning around and trying to sue FASA for IP violation. So even though FASA was fully legal (according to them, anyway), they kept having to defend themselves against legal threats. So finally, a few years ago, they threw in the towel and decided not to renew their licenses for those designs. It had just been more trouble than it was worth.
I'm guessing that they may have renewed those licenses again. Or figured out something else to make it work.

I only ever played MechCommander, but I loved it and redownloaded it again this year (meant to buy it, but the edition I could get was bad).
