Old Jeff Vogel Had a Blog.... E I E I O....
Jeff Vogel, of Spiderweb Software, maker of retro indie RPGs, now has a blog. I hesitate to mention this, because it will probably prove to be far more entertaining than my own.
But in the interest of community service (the kind not ordered by the judge), here ya go:
The Bottom Feeder

I'll be honest.. i may read it once or twice but I've never liked ANY game put out by spiderweb.
he dislikes rpgs yet makes them. he dislikes the start weak kill lots of rats progression... yet its how he makes them.
i give the royal finger to jeff vogel.

Uh... 'Jeff Vogel' ... this is the guy that's gone on a few rants about how he hates RPGs and RPGs are crap and publicly laughed at and dismissed people who tell him they're not... yet gladly takes people's money for his own RPGs... yeah I'll be giving it a pass, I think. Guy's either a blatant hypocrite or a blatant shock-monger, and neither one is all that attractive.
The Avernum games are pretty good, though, gotta give him that. As long as the actual person behind them stays off-stage and outta-sight, I'm cool with them.

I think sometimes his over-exposure to RPGs has broken him in some ways. I also think he's prone to hyperbole and a few grumpy rants that are a little too over-the-top (in the name of entertainment value). But I also look at what he wrote about having a baby - and if you took that at face value, I'd assume he was a downright hateful father.
I think it's just his way of expressing himself. I've had a few emailed messages with him, and it's my opinion that he's a very reasonable, thoughtful guy who doesn't REALLY hate his job. But he does build up a hell of a head of steam when he gets going on a rant. :)
