Special Deal For Eschalon: Book 1
Eschalon: Book 2 is now deep in development, and generating a tremendous amount of press for an indie game.
The era of the indie RPG is here, guys. :)
But the original, Eschalon: Book 1, is still getting plenty of love! First off, the developer just upgraded to version 1.05. All new downloads will be of this upgraded version - there's no stand-alone patch (yet).
Furthermore, Basilisk Games is having a sale on the original! If you haven't played the game yet, between now and March 15th, you can get it for 20% off with a special "online" coupon - a code from Rampant Games and Basilisk Games.
To get your copy at the special discount, go to the game webpage here:
Eschalon Book 1 at Rampant Games
Click "Buy Now" (or bypass the above steps by just go directly to the purchase page. You know you want to...)
Up near the top of the page, as you place your order, there is a box labeled "Coupon Code (Optional)" Fill it in with the following secret code: (SHHH! It's a secret! Don't tell anybody... at least don't tell anybody unworthy or anything...)
BOOK1RAMPGot it? Cut and paste that into the space, and recalculate the price. Finish up your order, and you should get the confirmation email shortly with instructions and your registration key to enjoy the full version.
Anyway, enjoy! And thanks for supporting indie RPGS!

Thanks for the coupon code! This game has been on my radar ever since I tried the demo, but your coupon pushed it over the edge for me. Immediately bought it upon reading!
Hopefully, with my limited time to play, I can finish it before Book 2 comes out.

Eschalon absolutely rocked. It is indie gold and I am eagerly awaiting book 2. Right now I am playing The Quest on iphone (also on PC, Palm, and symbian, no I'm affiliated) to tide me over till it arrives.
On a side note, you need a mac link for buy, I write you in at check out but I have no idea whether you get any kickback off of that or not.

I tried the demo, and the game looked good,... until I got to the underground parts. At that point, it ceased being fun for me. They were just too dark, despite all my character could do to illuminate them. I couldn't really see ANYTHING.
Apparently, that happens with some video hardware. And I don't like really dark areas in games, anyway (realistic? perhaps, but not fun). Eschalon 2 is supposed to include video settings to increase the brightness, but the first game doesn't (I tried adjusting the monitor, but that didn't help).
So, much as I would have liked to play the game, that's one I've had to skip. Instead, I've ordered Europa Universalis III Complete - not an RPG, but probably the most complicated strategy games I've ever seen. It moves very slowly, too, going by the demo. But there's something about it that really grabbed my attention. I don't know if I'll like it, but I had to try.

Thanks for the coupon! I hope you get something back when we buy the game using the coupon at the Basilisk games purchase page you linked to. :)
Like others, I had a few qualms about the demo. Dark areas, a few rough edges... The coupon discount was just substantial enough to tip the scales, and convince me to purchase the game.
Eschalon, Book 1, is a pioneering work: a proof-of-concept for a new generation of indie RPGs. It's understandable that it won't be fully polished right out the gate. I'm happy buying Eschalon at the rebate price on the understanding that I'm ALSO making it easier for new games in the same vein to be published in the future.

Thanks for this, I've been meaning to try Eschalon for quite a while now.
I've been following your blog for a few months now and it's very good. I really don't know how you find time to write so much when you're developing a game and playing others.
Keep on howlin' Coyote!
