What Happens to my Last Mainstream Game?
Since I've been offline in seminar-land the last couple of days, I completely missed this:Brash Officially Shutting Down
Ummm.... they are (er, were) the publishers for my last mainstream game, The Tale of Despereaux.
Color me officially bummed if this game doesn't see the light of day as a result. I mean, we were going into beta when I left - while it still had plenty of glitches that needed addressing, the game was basically done. It was supposed to be released in just over two weeks from now (according to web sites - I don't know if we developers were ever told exactly what the release date was).
Anyway - this spells bad news for the game. Hopefully it will get snatched up by a reputable publisher and released quickly - but who knows? I have less information on it than any other speculative consumer at this point. This is how the industry goes, of course, but I'll be very disappointed if it ends up in the purgatory of unreleased games for eternity.

Agreed! I saw this news yesterday. It'll be a pity if somebody doesn't pick it up. Last time i checked all 4 skews had passed. So as far as I see it somebody just needs to throw it in a box and on a shelf.
On a side note... Looks like Jerry's the only one left of the coders on the game. I've been gone for about 3 weeks.

Hey Brad - I hope you landed that position I heard about, and all is treating you well.
So do you know where Nick and Todd ended up?

I started at my new job last Monday at http://www.spillman.com They are a very different sort of company in that they pay their employees (and on time!), don't force us to work 80 hour weeks, and instead of stealing money from our 401k's, they match what we put in. It still seems weird to me, but I'm getting used to it ;-)
Todd is still there, although the rumor going around is that that is going to change soon. Also, last Monday they laid off 10 random designers and artists. There were also another 1 or 2 programmers that quit recently.
As for the game, the last news I heard was that it was definitely getting picked up by another publisher. I don't know any of the details, but I'm borderline positive it'll still go out...one way or the other.

Congrats, Nick.
Hey, can you guys send me your email addys for future reference / use? I'm at jayb at rampantgames dot com.
And did they really dip into the 401k to pay salaries?

I did get the job i was hoping for!! I'm currently up at the SCI institute here at the University of Utah. Its been way nice, and probably the most lax place around (not to mention I've got my own office with a great view of the mountains).
I sure hope it gets picked up. I'm really hoping to see it go through.
Todd definitely quit. He went over to the place that Penn went to... (though i can't remember its name).
My e-mail address is snard6 at yahoo dot com.
P.S. On unrelated news, Sarah and I just bought a home in Sandy. And we got a stellar deal for it. We move in on Saturday.

It looks like Despereaux got lucky :

Atari has swooped in and is planning on having this Brash title on store shelves by December 19th. (I was wondering why game news sites were still stating it coming out this week.)

Unfortunately, it looks like the best version - the XBox 360 version - has been shelved. No idea why.
I'm kinda bummed about that, but I'm glad that Despereaux will make it to stores on some platforms.
