Dogfights: Season 1
If combat flight simulators are your thing, or you just like stories or movies about aerial combat, and you are a Netflix subscriber, and you have broadband and can watch "instant" streaming movies, may I recommend:

Dogfights: Season 1

Assuming that link works. If not, watch for it on the History Channel. I have seen three episodes so far, and they have all been a lot of fun. My only big beef with them so far is that the otherwise excellent CGI recreation of dogfights had a flaw that drove me nuts: The F-4 Phantoms didn't trail smoke from their engines. That's kind of an F-4 trademark. How'd they let that get through?

Another comment: Am I just turning into an old fart, finding shows on TLC, Discovery, and the History Channel to be far more interesting than 95% of the "entertainment" provided by network television?

They probably decided that would confuse people.

I was mostly annoyed at the inaccurate landing gear on the Mustangs on one of the recent ones. I've seen Mustangs in operation; those inner gear doors do indeed droop when they're on the ramp, but as soon as you start the engine and the hydraulic pressure comes up, they close so that the cooling can work slightly. The only time they're open with the engine running is when they absolutely need to be for the wheels to clear them...

Add The Food Network and you've listed the channels that I watch 95% of the time. ;)

@Silas - Well, I guess those problems aren't quite as bad as Top Gun using American F-5 Tiger II's and calling them "MiG-28's."

@Chrysophrase - I'd have to add the Sci Fi channel to the list myself. But really, I sometimes go weeks without watching TV "live." I do catch a lot of shows years later on DVD, though. Julie and I have just started to catch up watching "The Office" lately.

I've been watching a lot of shows on HULU. So most of my 'TV' watching is done online. Check out the selection, no account even needed :)

History, Discovery, Food Network, Military (wish I could get that one)... all good stuff. TLC has unfortunately become mostly the "Remodeling/Decorating Channel". Meh.

But of course there's Telemundo to make up for it! =P

Well, Top Gun can be excused.

Although those F-5s are surprisingly tiny. I could cover one of the engine intakes with both hands. I don't think I'd even need a ladder to reach the cockpit, which is astounding for a jet.

And most of my TV is nothing to do with the big networks. I far prefer something above the lowest common denominator, especially if I can nitpick it to death... I was making snarky comments about the particle system used in Dogfights, along with their texturing on oceans...
