Robert Jordan R.I.P.
Wheel of Time author Robert Jordan dies
I avoided getting into the Wheel of Time series until it was done. And with the exception of the first book, which my wife found for me on tape to listen to during my commute, I've stuck with that resolution.
Now I'm not sure if I'll ever read it. Though reportedly Jordan was nearly done with the twelfth (and final?) book, so maybe it will be concluded after all.

Freaking hell! Damn it! I knew this would happen. Sigh. So much for the series I'd been following since I was in fifth grade. ><
According to some sources, RJ left his notes to his wife and publisher so that the book can be finished according to how he wanted it to end.
Moreover, he was heard to have said that the twelfth book IS the final one of the main story arc, so if his wife and publisher do decide to finish and release the book, then the story will have come to a proper close.

*SIGH* that's VERY sad.
I just came to know this a few hours ago.
I know he left some notes, let's all hope they are vast and comprehensive. Still, I don't know if anyone could try to match his style. I'd like VERY MUCH to have the notes published in any case, to know precisely what he did actually plan and what not.
When I first came to know he was ill, i was finishing book 11th. This situation always made me think about the urgency of writing everything down, every little tiny piece of project you may have. ESPECIALLY if you already started. Just in case. But I've always been paranoid and I've always behaved this way.
Anyway, Coyote, I strongly suggest you to go on anyway, it's still the "bestest" book (, series of) I've ever read. EVEN without the ending.
Still, I wonder how on Earth you managed to read the first book and not go on. This puzzles me, smells bad.
BTW, AFAIK he wasn't absolutely near done with the 12th, he was struggling just to write the prologue, and it wasn't finished yet (AFAIK).
Again, we have to hope strongly that his notes are sufficient to solve each plot. And to add this kind of "magic" his books have.

I share that concern as you, Lo'oris. While I am fairly confident that Book 12 will be released...eventually I doubt his style can be properly emulated by however finishes the book.
Well, people have been bugging me for years to read the series. Though it sounds to me (from reports from fans) that he was really drawing them out in the middle.
Still, it's sad to have such an influential fantasy author leave us. With Madeleine L'Engle going just last week (she's another factor in my warped childhood), it's been a sad month.

Well, not to speak ill of the dead, I'll just say that the plot and cast got too large and complicated for my taste around book 6 or so. Your mileage may vary. As you see there are plenty of others who have loved them all the way through. Anyhow, I liked the first four books quite a lot.
