Gamers Lost The Election
Game Life has a great rundown of just how horribly gamers (and taxpayers) lost Tuesday's election in the United States.

A quote: 'Did any significant number of American voters actually cast their ballot yesterday based on what the candidate thinks of video games? Likely not. But free-speech advocates still face an uphill battle in the months and years ahead as long as censorship in the guise of "protecting the children" remains a politically winning issue.'

It continues with a detailed run-down of the results.

It's dissapointing. Two more years of blowing through taxpayer money to defend laws that attack the Bill of Rights. Joy.

Am I really that alone in voting based on the candidates' views on video games?

The good news in Illinois: the third party candidate gained enough votes to make the next election interesting. Blagojevich, however, is still in power.

Well, admittedly there are a few larger issues in voter's minds right now. The war in Iraq, net neutrality, etc...

I'm a little more vehement because I don't see this as a "videogames" issue, but as a First Amendment issue. I don't want to live in a country where I have to pay more than my annual income just to be able to express myself in my chosen medium (one that is already expensive). And I don't want others to have to do the same.

Ah, well. Few worthwhile things in this world come easy. It's not exactly like government waste is a NEW THING. So we keep paying taxpayer dollars on both sides to lawyers.

We just need to speak out louder... besides - not all gamers all over the world have lost the elections... We Finns for example have video game candidate Jyrki Kasvi in our government (not that it necessarily means anything, but at least we have him ;).
