The Flower Conspiracy
I think it's a conspiracy.

The flower-picking simulators are everywhere! This is what I ended up doing in Dungeons & Dragons Online tonight:

I've heard rumors that World of Warcraft has entire quests based around this dynamic! Aveyond - it's right in the first five minutes of the game! Blatently out there!

Something should be done. Think about this children! How can we protect our children from this exposure to flower violence in videogames! If we don't start arresting retailers now for peddling this flower-theft to children, pretty soon we're gonna see 16-year olds gathering entire basketfulls of daisies!

This can't just be an accident. The corrupt and corrupting games industy is behind it, I'm sure.

I am willing to help any state draft legislation to send a powerful and expensive message to retailers and the videogame industry that WE WILL NOT TOLERATE ANY MORE OF THIS PETAL-PEDDLING!

Not at all plugging myself, I want to express my shame. I am a part of the problem, not the solution. My upcoming game, Loonyland II: Winter Woods, not only features a variety of flowers to pick (they're referred to as "herbs", to get past the censors, but you can plainly see the flowers on them), but within the first 30 seconds of the game you can pick up a quest ordering you to collect some. Kids playing this game receive gratification for flower-picking. It directly stimulates their pleasure centers. You score points based on how many flowers you pick!

Yes, I am a purveyor of Picking Simulators. What's Jack Thompson gonna do about it?!

Even the "Cool Cat Bad" dude is not without blame!

August 15, 2006 [Associated Press]
"US attorney Jack Thompson, an outspoken critic of sex and violence in videogames, has turned his attentions to Hamumu Games' upcoming game, Loonyland 2 - describing the game as a 'petalphile's paradise'.

Something must be done about all these Petal Pushers!

Even Disney has been involved in this secret conspiracy for decades. I'm sure you remember the dialog from "Bambi" where the skunk says "You can call me flower if you want to."

This was obviously a blant influence on youth leading them into a life of botany and herbology, and yes, even picking flowers in the woods. Skipping is optional.

Yes, in Oblivion you can literally spend all your time picking flowers -- it really does become addicting! "Oh, I'll just pick those over there, and then I'm done... Oh, but there's some more over here, I'll just pick those as well..." etc. etc. If you weren't OCD before playing Oblivion, you soon will be: "My path is chosen! I must rid the world of all flowering plant life! ALL MUST BE PICKED!" =P

In World of Warcraft, very few are actually "flowers"... weeds is a more accurate term. Fortunately, weed-picking quests are few and far between... It all comes down to "Do I really need another Catseye Elixir right now? Sure I've already got 20 in the bank, but...."

LOL. I made level 47 or so in Oblivion - maxed out my Alchemy skill - and I was STILL habitually picking flowers whenever I walked past them. And I'd change my direction of travel just to pass by more flowers. I hardly needed any of the potions anymore - nor did I really need any of the money from selling said potions. I already had a fully-furnished house in every city, and I couldn't find any better, more expensive equipment than what I already had.

But I still HAD to pick those flowers! I'm right there with ya :)
