June Status Update
I finished Oblivion today. I don't know if it's actually "finished" when I've not completed ALL the quests I intended to follow, and when I've only explored something like 10% of the dungeons I've encountered in the game --- but after way too much time devoted to the game and my character very nearly maxed out on his level, and of course the main storyline completed - there's just not a whole lot more worth doing. But unlike most story-based RPGs, ES: Oblivion still allows you to keep playing after it's been "won." Which is cool. I may go back and play a little, but the drive is definitely gone. But it's satisfying.

Also - we've been making some DNS changes in preparation to move RampantGames.com to a new server and a new ISP. Some of you may have noticed outages over the last few weeks... out current hosting solution has not been very responsive, so we're moving. So there may be a little bit more downtime in the next week or so, but I certainly hope to find us more stable than ever following this move.

*Knock on wood*

Comments:
I tend to play the Elder Scroll games using an 'outside-in' approach. I do as many side quests, guild quests, etc. that I can before tackling the main quest because I know that once I've beaten it, my interest is going to fade pretty fast.

It was bitter-sweet for me when I completed Morrowind (and to a lesser extent, Oblivion). In Morrowind, I played very casually -- 3-4 hours spread over an entire month. This went on for over a year before I really got into the game and played nearly non-stop for an entire day. On one hand, it was satisfying to see the main storyline come to an end but it was also the end of my characters' life.

I never finished Morrowind, but I did finish Daggerfall. After going to Oblivion (I guess... it was some plane with stars all around) and doing battle across really bizarre geometry (which was, in a way, cooler than what was behind the Oblivion gates in the latest game), and doing battle against Daedra Lords, going back to the random quests of Daggerfall just didn't have much of a draw for me anymore. I tried, but I think I got only about one random quest in before quitting.
