Mel is an orphan - and a thief living on the streets who has become very good at what she does. So good, in fact, that she doesn't think twice when offered a job to recover an old family heirloom from haunted ruins. Without warning, the "easiest gold she's ever made" ends with her being hunted by a powerful vampire mage, embroiled in an ancient prophecy and a plot that could plunge the entire world into unending darkness.

Aveyond: Lord of Twilight is the third game in the excellent game in Amaranth's best-selling Aveyond RPG series. It is also the first in the "Orbs of Magic" series. These games are somewhat smaller than the previous games in the Aveyond series, but cost only half as much. Each game represents a chapter in the series, this chapter focusing on Mel and the vampire Te'ijal. Even so, Aveyond: Lord of Twilight offers many, many hours of exploration, romance, adventure, puzzles, battles, humor, and exciting gameplay.

This is the most polished and confident of the already stellar Aveyond games so far. Not that something like Rhen being sold into slavery in the opening chapter of Aveyond: Rhen's Quest is exactly light and fluffy, but Lord or Twilight seems to have a darker storytelling palette mixed with the lighter, humorous touch that is a hallmark of the series.

While it has some familiar characters and locations to veterans of the previous games in the series, Aveyond: Lord of Twilight is a fully self-contained story. No previous knowledge of the Aveyond series is necessary to enjoy this game.
