Continuing from the events of Aveyond: Lord of Twilight, Aveyond: Gates of Night continues the adventures of spy trainee Mel and her struggle against the forces of darkness led by a powerful vampire lord.

Before his death two hundred years ago, Mordred Darkthrop created two opposing magical orbs - the Orb of Darkness and the Orb of Light. Unwittingly stolen by Mel - a young thief and descendent of Darkthrop - and delivered into the hands of the vampire mage Gyendal, the Orb of Darkness can be used to plunge the entire world into eternal darkness and the human race into slavery.

Now it is up to Mel and her motley band of companions to find the only thing that can stop Gyendal - the Orb of Light - before the vampire completes his plans for world domination.

Aveyond: Gates of Night is the third game in the excellent game in Amaranth's best-selling Aveyond RPG series. It is the second in the "Orbs of Magic" series. These games are somewhat smaller than the previous games in the Aveyond series, but cost only half as much. Each game represents a sizeable chapter in the series, and continues exactly where the last left off.

While this is the second game in the Orbs of Magic series, you do not need to have completed Lord of Twilight (or any other Aveyond game, for that matter) to enjoy it. While optional, I'd still suggest starting with Aveyond: Lord of Twilight to enjoy the full story and character progression.

As with all Aveyond games, Aveyond: Gates of Night offers old-school console-style RPG fun, complete with lots of exploration, adventure, puzzles, battles, and Amaranth Games' unique sense of playfulness and humor.
